Aging Mastery Program helps participants enjoy living longer

People are living longer these days, and getting older is something adults either dread or look forward to as a new stage of life. Whichever one they choose, more people have been given a gift of longevity not enjoyed by previous generations. The Aging Mastery Program® (AMP) helps them prepare for that future.

The Aging Mastery Program is a series of classes that offers a comprehensive and fun approach to living that celebrates the gift of longevity. Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) partners with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to purchase a regional license to offer AMP throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.

AMP is a fun, innovative new health and wellness program proven to help people 55 years and older make meaningful changes in their lives. The 10-session program combines goal-setting, daily practices, and peer support to help participants make meaningful changes in their lives. Central to the AMP philosophy is the belief that modest lifestyle changes can produce big results and that people can be empowered to cultivate health and longevity.

Participants explore ways to improve health, strengthen economic security, make important decisions for the future and get more pleasure from life. Sessions include information on navigating longer lives, exercise, sleep, healthy eating and hydration, financial fitness, medication management, advance planning, healthy relationships, fall prevention and community engagement.

Graduates from previous programs said, “Living longer is awesome, especially when you can plan ahead and think actions through.” Another said, “I learned how important it is to organize, plan for the future, exercise more, become more involved in the community and keep up with friends.”
