MoDNR provides funding to help reduce diesel emissions

Starting Oct. 1, interested applicants, including government agencies with diesel fleets, can apply for funding from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) to help reduce diesel emissions.

In 2016, the U.S. reached a settlement agreement with Volkswagen related to its violation of Clean Air Act regulations for diesel emissions. MoDNR will award $41 million from the Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Environmental Mitigation Trust, targeting funds to Missouri-specific projects that reduce diesel emissions. More than $10 million is available statewide for awards. The application period opens on Oct. 1. Funds are available for several categories — locomotives, tugboats, ferries, airport equipment, non-government trucks, and cargo handling equipment.

More information about the Volkswagen Trust is available on the Missouri Department of Natural Resources website.
