MARC receives Distinguished Budget Presentation award

MARC staff shared the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation award with board members at the October meeting of the MARC Board of Directors. Back row, from left: David Warm, MARC’s executive director; Carol Gonzales, director of finance and administration; and Miami County Commissioner Rob Roberts, chair of the MARC Board. Front row: Becky Hall, financial accounting manager; Katelyn Click, grant manager; and Joanne Bussinger, grant manager.

For the first time, the Mid-America Regional Council has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Our audit report has earned GFOA honors for more than 30 consecutive years, but we had never submitted our budget for consideration until this year.

In preparing the 2019 budget, we introduced a brand new format and combined the annual budget with our agency work plan. The combined 2019 Budget and Work Plan serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications tool. It was adopted by the MARC Board of Directors in December 2018 and is available online.

Numerous cities and counties in the region have received the GFOA award for their annual budgets, but MARC is one of only a handful of regional councils to receive this recognition.
