Career Expo encourages young people to explore jobs in public service

On Nov. 7, cities and counties in the Kansas City region hosted the 2019 Public Service Career Expo at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Missouri. More than 3,200 students from 50 metro-area high schools and middle schools attended the expo to learn about promising career paths in public service.

The expo highlighted key sectors of public service, including law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire safety, parks and recreation, health and human services, public works, courts and legal services, human services, information technology, community development and public administration.

More than 300 local government professionals volunteered to help organize and staff booths at this event. These professionals demonstrated the diversity of public service jobs available. Students also learned about the necessary skills and education to make their career choice a reality.
